Quick Update!

Parents,

Our WAVE day has been changed to Friday, September 18.  Please make sure your child wears appropriate attire.  Also, if you are a car rider parent please read the following:
To help expedite pick up in the afternoon, please have your car tags with you,  If you are a K-1 parent, please use the line to the left (near the flag poles).  If you are a 2-5 parent, please use the line to the right (near the office).  There will be a large sign in the front today to help distinguish the groups.  Please keep in mind, the students come to the lobby in a staggered manner so we are getting them out the doors as they come up front.  The order of dismissal is 5, 4, K, 1, 3 and lastly 2.  As the lines go down, please move up so we can clearly see your tags.  Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated.  We are moving as quickly as we can to get your Patriots to you.

Week of August 31

What an awesome start to the school year.  I am loving each and every one of my students.   We have been completing a lot of fun activities as well as really starting to learn about Daily 5 (reading centers) and Daily 3 (math centers). We have also completed many writing assignments! Next week we will continue with our Daily 5 and 3 and really start to learn more about sentence structure and how to put a paragraph together.

I have enjoyed all of the participation on the ClassDojo.  If anyone still needs their access code please contact me via a note to school or e-mail.  I have also created all children an account on FrontRow which is a website your children can use for math practice.  You can find the website at: https://student.frontrowed.com/#login.  Their way to sign is, is through their first name and last name.  The class code is: ytgbaw.  The website is very easy to navigate.  Feel free to ask any questions.

Also, if your student has not paid their school fees or turned in all paper work please be sure to do that as soon as possible. Lastly, next week we will start homework and sending home our behavior chart. So remind your student to be on their very best behavior!

Last thing! Please please, please please send in box tops!! Also, next week the school will be starting to sell treats to give out on Fridays. This year they will be offering gold fish, popcorn and suckers. The treats are $.50 each. I will tell the students what the treat will be on Monday. They have until Thursday to bring in money! Thanks!

I look forward to another great week!

First Day Success!

Today was a big success.  I loved meeting everyone and getting to know everyone.  I have been keeping up with the ClassDojo throughout the day!  All children went home on purple due to excellent teamwork.  This year is going to be a great one I can already tell.  Please do not forget to send any forms, fees, or supplies to school in the next few days.  Thank you!

It's time!
  • I have established a distribution list so I can keep in touch with you through e-mail.  I will be contacting parents throughout the weeks to keep you all updated on what is going on in our classroom.
  • Tomorrow is the first day of school!!
  • Please send in all paperwork from orientation.  When filling it out read the information carefully, some of the papers are opt out only forms.
  • Lunch is now $2.25.  The link for Free and Reduced lunch forms can be found on the school webpage and copies will be sent home shortly.  Even if you think you may not qualify, I encourage each of you to complete one anyway.
  • Students should send in all supplies on Monday.  We will label all supplies together as a class on Tuesday.
  • Students will have a snack time.  I encourage them to bring a snack daily.
  • You will receive a letter on Monday with a great deal of classroom information, including behavior expectations, homework, and various other items.  Read, sign, and return for me. Also, there will be a parent contact form at the bottom that would be a great deal of help if you would fill out.
  • If you need to make a transportation change it needs to be sent to me in the form of a letter/e-mail or you may call the office to make that change prior to 2:30.  It is very important to let me know because I am not permitted to make a change unless I have a written note or you have called the office to make that change.
  • This first week we will be completing procedures and learning how things are going to be done in second grade, as well as establishing our community and learning about each other.
  • Reading assessments will be started next Monday.  Once the official time frame to complete them is completed I will send home an Mclass report with beginning of the year data.  Please keep in mind written assessment questions have changed, so we are all learning the new requirements for them (including the children).
  • It is going to take me a couple weeks to get to know your students ability levels.  I ask you be patient as I learn levels and begin to differentiate work for all students. Don't panic if you see work and assume it is already too easy...students need a chance to review and get back into the groove while I am learning about them educationally.  We will be establishing Daily 5 and Daily 3 as well, and it is a great deal of learning how the classroom will be run.  The more we practice and perfect on the front end...the easier and more smoother it will be later.
  • We will be meeting for conferences in September and October.  If you have any questions or concerns prior to that, please let me know and we can meet.
  • Do not forget to sign up for ClassDojo. This is a quick and easy way for you to keep track of your child’s behavior throughout the day. I will be sending access codes home again this week for parents who have not signed up or who may have misplaced their paperwork.

I look forward to a wonderful year as your child’s second grade teacher. Do not hesitate to email me or contact me through ClassDojo with any questions or concerns you may have. Together we can make this year GREAT!

Thank you for coming...

Thank you to all of the parents who came out to orientation last night.  We had a wonderful turnout!  I look forward to working closely with students and parents this school year.

Just a few reminders:

  • Don't forget to sign up with ClassDojo so you can keep up with your child's behavior.
  • If you can, send a pair of earbuds with your child to use on the computers.  (If you can not get a pair, I will have a pair for them)
  • Please send school supplies on Monday (if you have not already) so we can jump into our routine.
  • I will be sending home a letter on Monday with Behavior and Classroom Information for your records.

Lets make the 2015-2016 school year the BEST!

Just as an idea:

We will be using the sound on the netbooks and computers a great deal this year.  For cleanliness reasons, if you could purchase a pair of ear buds (dollar store has some) it would be greatly appreciated.  They will be labeled with your student's name and the only ones permitted to use their ear buds.  If students are not able to purchase ear buds I have headphones they may share.
