Week of November 20th   

Hello Stateside Patriots!

A special THANK YOU to all the families who volunteered and joined us for the Fall Festival. It was an AMAZING night!

Wednesday – Friday – No School Thanksgiving Holiday -ENJOY!

A permission slip went home regarding a presentation from Mr. Slimgoodbody on November 29th. This presentation will be at Stateside. Cost $4.
Permission Slips and payment are due Tuesday, November 28th.

Operation Christmas Child.
If you can donate any of the following items, please send them in with your child:

3rd Grade items to bring: small toys (dolls, stuffed animals, balls, dinosaurs, trucks), finger puppets, slinky, Etch A Sketch, musical instrument, yo-yo, frisbee, dress-up items, hacky sack, jump rope

Regarding the computer virus, we have been asked to share this information with families:

To prevent infection of home networks, we have disabled students’ ability to connect to any wireless network other than the OCS network. Students will not be able to connect to their home networks until further notice.


Topics of Study:
Reading: Non-fiction text features (Table of contents, glossary, index, diagrams, bold print words, captions). We continue to enjoy our chapter book Frindle.

Writing: Organization, moving into Sentence Fluency

Workstations: Guided Reading, fluency, skill of the week, technology

Math Workshop: Grouping, Multiplication strategies

Social Studies: Map Skills

Science:  Human Body

Please make sure students charge laptops at home and be sure your child brings his/her laptop to school each day. This is becoming a problem in our classroom. Students need to demonstrate responsibility and be prepared for class.

Week of November 6th  

Hello everyone,
I would like to thank all our parents and grandparents who volunteered/donated to make our Halloween Spook-Tacular so much fun!  Thank you!
We have started a new bucket of Warm Fuzzies… Good Citizenship and Compliments fill that bucket quickly!  Our next goal is a Winter Wonderland Party in December.  Let’s keep the momentum going!  

This week’s focus us all about our honorable VETERANS.  A SINCERE THANK YOU for all you have done, and continue to do for our country!

This week is INCREDIBLY BUSY:

Monday: WAVE B Day. AM ENCORE

Tuesday: C Day Full Day of Learning. Report cards will be coming home.

Wednesday: D Day. Field Trip. We will be leaving around 10:45. We will be returning around 1:00 (we will eat lunch when we return to school)

Thursday: ERPD. Half day for students. We will have Morning Meeting and Veteran's Day activities. 

Friday: NO SCHOOL: Holiday. Veteran's Day

Learning Targets for the Week:

Reading: Continue characters of the story. We will begin our new chapter book  Frindle.

Math: Grouping, Multiplication strategies.

Writing: Research writing

Tuesday 10/31/17 -  D Day - Say BOO to Drugs Wear a costume (no masks, no unpleasant/scary costumes, and/or fake bloody visuals…keep it clean and keep it fun)

*Pay $1.00 to wear a costume (Supports NEHS. NEHS officers will collect money from classroom)

Our Halloween Spook-Tacular will begin at 2:00.  A special THANK YOU to all of the parents who have volunteered their time and money to help support our classroom.  THANK YOU!

Hello everyone,

Our bucket of Warm Fuzzies is almost full and we are very close to earning our Halloween Party! I am sending out volunteer sign-up sheet via SignUpGenious.  Please be on the look-out for that. Our projected party with be on Friday, October 27th (WAVE B DAY) at 2:00.  I am looking for 4 parent volunteers to join us.  I am also looking for snacks and supplies to help make this party extra SPOOK-TACULAR! Thank you in advance!

I am also looking for parent volunteers to assist in setting up our reading library.  Anyone interested could volunteer as little, or as much time as you would like.  Tasks include making copies, cutting booklets, stapling and organizing. Please email me, if you are interested.

We have a few kiddos that have not turned in their permission slip and/or $6 for our Field Trip.  This needs to be turned in ASAP. Deadline was last week.
We also had a handful of students that did not turn in their monsters (homework).

Hello everyone,

A very special shout out to all my families who came out for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  It was so nice to meet each of you!  Thank you for continued commitment to your child’s education and our classroom.  Together, we are making a difference! 

I’m not sure if your children came home and shared the OUTSTANDING news!  Last Friday, our ENTIRE class clipped up to BLUE (and MANY clipped up to PURPLE).  This was an amazing day because our class demonstrated how truly wonderful they are when they are making good choices and are being true Patriots. I shared with our class on Friday, that after thirteen years of teaching, and thousands of children coming through my doors, that THIS is the class I have always wanted! I am truly proud of your children.  Let’s keep that momentum going…

Week of October 2nd   

Hello everyone,

Gosh, Fall is certainly in the air :)

I am looking forward to ANOTHER OUTSTANDING week!

We have many awesome things coming up at Stateside this week:

On Tuesday, October 3rd , we will be having our Voluntary Informational Meeting for RtA at 5:30. This is a great opportunity to learn more about these assessments.  I look forward to seeing all of you there!

We will continue our weekly spelling quizzes. I gave our kiddos their new spelling words (Week 3). They will be quizzed on Friday (for these 16 words and additional 4 words from previous weeks. They will be quizzed on a total of 20 words. KEEP STUDYING!

We will be continuing our Math lessons on skip counting by 2s, and 5s, as well as reviewing units of time. We will also be working on adding/subtracting up to the 1,000s place.

We are still setting the groundwork for our Reading/Guided Reading Groups.  We are really enjoying our book Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli.

For Science, we are continuing our unit on Force and Friction.  Tests have been moved to Thursday (October 5th).

For writing, we are learning about Synthesizing and Organization.  We will be focusing on how we read, and what we think of as we read.  We will continue writing, reflecting and utilizing the Writing Process :)

A new monthly homework sheet will be going home tomorrow. Please make sure that you are looking at your child’s homework page and behavior chart each night.  Our class has many, many students showing off their patriotism by not only staying on GREEN, but they have been reaching BLUE and PURPLE as well!  I couldn’t be more proud of your children and would love for you to see how well they are doing :)  On the flipside, if/when we have a kiddo make a bad choice… well, it is the perfect opportunity to have a conversation and possibly discuss other options in decision making.  Either scenario, it keeps you in the loop on how your child is doing each and every day :)  This continues to be a Work-In-Progress :)

Week of September 25th  

Hello everyone,

It was another AMAZING week at Stateside!

We have many awesome things coming up at Stateside this week:

On Monday, September 25th, we will be having our Open House/Book Fair from 5:30-7:00. This is a great opportunity to see some of the fantastic things our kiddos have been working on!  The Book Fair will be open in the Media Center & don’t forget to get your Rita Ice!  Parents, get your fingers ready – as you will have Federal Cards to complete in our classroom :)

We will continue our weekly spelling quizzes. I gave our kiddos their new spelling words (Week 2). They will be quizzed on Friday (for these 16 words and additional 4 words from previous weeks. Last week was our only list so far… so the words will be from Week 1)They will be quizzed on a total of 20 words.

We will be continuing our Math lessons on rounding and place value.  We will be reviewing skip counting by 2s, and 5s, as well as reviewing units of time.
